FREQUENTLY ASKED COUNSELLING & PSYCHOTHERAPY QUESTIONS
We understand the questions that are frequently asked about Counselling, Psychotherapy and everything in between. If you can’t find the answer you are looking for here Contact Us and we’ll get back you to soon.
Counselling / Psychotherapy will occur on a weekly basis. You will meet your therapist for an initial consultation where you can work together to set out a plan that can best meet your individual needs. Each subsequent session will last 50 minutes and will always occur with the same psychotherapist and in the same room. Counselling and Psychotherapy provide a space where you can be confident in expressing yourself freely, and begin to speak about and work through the issues that you need help and support with.
This very much depends on the individual needs of each of our clients. It can be as little as a few weeks, or span months or even longer. However, the client is always at the centre of any decision in this regard. Your therapist will work closely with you to identify the change you wish to see and then check in regularly to ensure that your needs are being met on a week by week basis.
Our clients often believe that only those with extreme psychological issues see a therapist, but this is not the case. Everyone at one stage or another will experience a difficult period in their lives. Circumstances sometimes allow us to navigate these challenges with relative ease, but just as often we are left struggling to adapt. However, if you are struggling to understand or adapt to life’s challenges, then counselling and or psychotherapy can help.
Counselling and Psychotherapy provides a safe and confidential environment in which to express yourself. All therapists in Marino Counselling and Psychotherapy work under strict code of ethics that safe guard everything you say within your session. There are a limited number of exceptions to confidentiality that centre on child protection laws and a threat to the safety of client or someone they know. All this will be covered by your therapist and you may ask as many questions about this as you need to feel completely safe. At the heart of everything we do as therapists is the safety of our clients.
From time to time we understand that appointments need to be cancelled. We would ask that 24 hours’ notice be provided to your therapist for any cancellation. We will always try to reschedule an appointment, but this may not always be possible. Please speak to your therapist regarding any queries you may have in this regard.
This is very common, especially for those clients who are speaking to a psychotherapist for the first time. All our therapists are keenly aware of how difficult it can be to seek help for the first time, or for that matter to return to therapy. Please know that this anxiety is completely natural and we will aim to make your experience as easy as possible.
We will always aim to see new clients as quickly as possible. You may however be in a position where you need more immediate support.
